- Music!:
Miku Hatsune/thread
right?
Heh - math rock is pretty cool sometimes. I was on a bit of a math rock kick when I was 17/18~ish. Sort of coincides with a lot of listening to a lot of the more technical stuff that comes out of the prog metal and rock domains. Genre classification for music is a mess though. To this day I still describe one of the bands (or rather, duos) I listen to as "neo-retro post-punk electro." So have fun with clean and clear-cut genre classification.
I listen to a fairly wide variety of stuff when you include youtubes, internet radio, &c. Regarding the stuff I own, however, the vast majority of it consists of metal, alt rock, and electronica. In recent years, I've massively cut down on my spending on music though and purchasing in general (I'd say I spend somewhere around 1/15 of what I used to). Actually, on that note, I think the last album I bought was
Siren Charms by In Flames, which is another hit-or-miss album in many regards. Personally, I don't dislike it, but it's not exactly the most memorable album of their discography either. Hardly ever get around to seeing live performances of any bands I know. Last band I saw live in that regard was The Sword.
As for recent releases...I guess I might get the latest Enter Shikari album at some point, but nothing in particular comes to mind as a must-buy off the top of my head. Looking forward to new RHCP...would be nice to see it out before the end of the year.
I don't listen to music anywhere near as much as I used to. These days, I mainly go for a music as a backdrop to homework and/or when I get tired of a video game's tunes. On a related note, I do occasionally pick up video game music, or similarly check out an artist/OST involved in the music for an anime if I've enjoyed their stuff. Major case in point from being Rin Toshite Shigure (usually stylized as Ling Tosite Sigure). I've also been on the fence about buying the
Kill la Kill soundtrack. Although those buys tend to be few and far inbetween, especially since I'm not much up to budgeting to import music anymore.
Other than that, mainly just been leaning on the library and old favorites/reliable homework music lately, including but not limited to:
In Flames
Machinae Supremacy
Sigh
Draconian
Chevelle
X-Fusion
she
Protest the Hero
Crystal Castles
Daft Punk
...and that's 10, so I think I'll leave it at that.
Tempted to talk about videogame music, but that almost seems like maybe another thread entirely?
