Never thought this would happen

Got a deal I couldn't pass up on a used 3DS.

MH4 is on it's way!  

I have a lot of work ahead of me before I start partying but add Nolt for the future.

And how is the GS?

Hey Nolt. Cool to hear that you're finally getting a 3DS and jumping into MH4U.
The GS is great, imo. Tons of fun, especially with the verticality of 4U's environment, and that new finishing attack it has is excellent.

I've had my interest piqued for the Charge Blade.

Have you tried it Anubis?

Nah - I've been exclusively using GS with my main and haven't even gotten around to using the Insect Glaive with my alt, although I think it's pretty widely-accepted that both the Charge Blade and Insect Glaive are high/top-tier classes. Fairly sure Lost was dabbling in the Charge Blade arts, but he may have gone back to Swaxe/GS. In any case, even with the improvements added in MH4U, the game could always use more magic. I'm hoping for a lot of spells and powerful enchanted armor in MHX.

Yeah, I used the CB a few rounds, but went right back to GS and SA just because I wasn't in the mood for learning a 4th weapon. I was still trying HH at the time. And even just doing 2 weapons, keeping up money-wise is hard.

Also, you only have to hit HR before I become properly available. Though I could down-grade my gear and maybe use LS which I only have LR stuff for. It'll pull me from FF14 at least.

What is this talk of alts? Are characters limited in some way?

Definitely going to take a look at the CB.

Still waiting on stuff but I'll probably knock out LR on my own so I can get competent with the game.

Ohlol - hope I didn't give you a scare Nolt. No, characters aren't limited in any sort of new way. I just always have alt characters in pretty much every game that allows for customization, and MH is no exception. Generally, I have at least one ~specialist~ character, and one all-rounder, and indeed, one male character and one female character if there are significant differences. Part of that is just a matter of what you might think of as secondary completionism. In MH4U, I refer to my GS-only character as my main, and my everything-else character as my alt.

Actually, very loosely on the subject of character limits, if anything, they've improved things a bit. There's a bit more space for registered loadouts and the system for that is a bit more streamlined, and you can also save item pouch configurations. Likewise, on a somewhat related note, characters are not locked to one assigned charm table in MH4U. So yeah, worry not - no major character limitations - it's still pretty much freestyle.

Hey Nolt. I remember you from from old 1KJho.

CB is a very interesting weapon. I've done just over 600 hunts with it now, I think. It's really easy to pick up and use. It has both mobility and power packed away inside it, and is devastating with both KO and element. By itself, it is very powerful, especially for the high mobility is allows.

And then you add in guard point. This may be THE defining feature of CB, the ability to do a block that hits with a phial's worth of damage along with applying KO to the area hit. Probably the best part is that any attack can be used to trigger it. Monster about to roar? Get in front of it, block with guard point, and apply some nice KO/elemental power.

I will say this, it is not an easy weapon to use. I still can't fully get guard points right, and the wide sweeping nature of some attacks can be troublesome in online.


But if you see me online, say in the chat box, I'm usually up for helping out in the hunts. And, like Lost, I'd be perfectly willing to swap into rank-appropriate gear to help keep things at least a little challenging.

No specific charm table, that is good news. I actually did charm snipe in MH3U and will never do that to myself again, heh.

Rangeth that CB guard point sounds pretty fun, seems like a weapon that I can devote some time to learning much like the GS. I liked the SnS and it's mobility but it's lack of damage always made me use it just for fun. Having a cross between it and a powerful weapon is what really interests me.
